About the "Members Only Area"

(Return to Home Page)

What is the "Members Only" area, and what is it for?

The "Members Only" area is intended for RTFFX customers to check on the status of their projects. On larger projects, a customer may elect to preview project content while it is being worked on. For example, a customer who had a wedding event videotaped recently can view portions or all of it on-line by logging into this area of this site. Here are some of the items which, depending on the project, would become available as the project is being completed:

  • Video (movies) with the sound. If the project's video has a scene index, each scene can be played individually.
  • Slideshows with music
  • Image galleries.
  • A copy of the invoice for the project, to date. You can view, print, or save (download) it. The invoice will remain available as long as the user's account exists.

Normally the preview items will be removed from the site when the project is completed. Obviously if the project has been completed, the customer now has the results and doesn't need the preview!

People who are not customers can still sign up to see how it works. If they want, they can also use it to become customers. Everyone has access to a sample project which is made out of elements from the "RTFFX Demo Disc." The example project even includes an sample invoice.

If you want to be cautious and try it out anonymously without signing up, you will be able to log in to a special account with the user name "Guest:" (the password is "Account"). You will have some of the abilities as a standard non-customer account. You won't be able to order items or services and become a customer, though. The reason you won't be able to do those things is that those features require a valid (verified) email address.

How much information is required to sign up?
The only information required to sign up or "register" is your name, a valid email address, plus you also supply a user name and a password with which to log in.
Do you use my email address to send advertisements or other unsolicited information?
No. The policy currently is that RTFFX may correspond using email with customers or guests only as required. Even if the policy changed (if, for example RTFFX decided to publish a newsletter), then a checkbox would be added to the user's settings to allow or disallow unsolicited email and it would be disallowed if you didn't do anything.
Does it cost anything?
No. The service is free.
How do I sign up? Is it difficult?
A link to the signup page is provided on the RTFFX home page. Once there, all you have to do is fill out the form. You create your own account. Accounts do not become active unless they are verified. Before an account can be used, the email address you give must be verified. This means that after you sign up, an email will be sent to the email address you supplied. The email will contain a link which you must click on while online to activate your account.
What happens if I don't verify the email address?

Then your account is automatically removed within a day or two.

Are things going to be added to the login side?

Yes. It is expected to that it will be updated periodically. Things will be added or changed. Initially it may not appear to be that "fancy".

Can I still get Review Discs on larger projects?
Yes. Review Discs for larger projects are likely to remain the preview method containing the highest quality picture and sound. Also, some people don't have access to the internet. If you want Review Discs, then you shouldn't expect to be able to also view your material online.
If Review Discs offer the best quality, then why should I preview my material on the web site?
Keep in mind that the purpose of doing this online is to give you an advanced preview of the content (what's in it) and not the quality (how it looks). It also provides the opportunity to correct errors rapidly. Projects are expected to move along much faster if the previews are online, however, as the setup required for doing it for the web site is being automated.
Is it hard to "get around" in the "Member's Area"?
It is very easy. You see a set of tabs at the top of the page. You simply click on the tab you want. A tab (such as "Projects") may display other tabs underneath it. Then selecting a tab in that page may show other tabs, and so on. One can easily click down the "Projects" chain down to a specific project and then to a specific part of project such as a particular slideshow or video clip. If you then click on a tab which is higher than what you currently were seeing, and tabs (if any), up to the new tab, that you were seeing, magically disappear.
Can I view some other customer's video or slideshow?
No. You will only be able to see your project(s). You will, of course, also have access to the example project as well, but that is all. You may not view anybody else's project unless you get that person's username and password.
Can someone else view my project?
No. See the answer to the previous question.
I'd like my friends to be able to log in and view my project. Is that possible?
Currently the only way to do that would be for you to give your friend(s) your username and password. You can certainly do that, but for that, you take the responsibility. Beware that anyone else who logs in will be able to see your invoice, which, to you, might appear to contain personal information. (If any feedback indicating this is a problem is received, a feature which allows the invoice to be hidden will be added.)
Do you have access to passwords and do you know what they are?
Although RTFFX could create an account for you with a user name and password, there is no need to do that. Normally people create their own. RTFFX of course has access to the account information, but the passwords can not be seen as the user types them, so it is not really known what they are. You also can have your password changed at any time..
Can I delete my login account if I want?
Yes. You can request to do that at any time. For security reasons, the procedure is currently to send email to RTFFX and ask that the account be deleted. The account will be promptly removed and you won't be given a hard time about it!
If my login account is deleted, what about my customer information (if any) ?
There would be effect on the customer info. Yes, you can request to have that deleted also. Deletion of the login account just means that you won't be able to log in any more. If you go ahead and sign up again, then your log in account can be linked to your customer information once again.
How secure is it?
Every attempt has been made to make the site as secure as possible. The data is downloaded periodically to back it up. Since the online method of payment involves Paypal only, there is no need to ask for credit card numbers. Such information, since it is not stored, therefore cannot "leak out" (i.e., be "compromised"). Otherwise, In general, as for any site where you can log in, you should pick user names and passwords which are hard to guess. Your selected user name and password must be at least 6 characters each. For passwords, It is recommended that there be at least one number and at least one character of different case as the rest of the letters. In other words, if the letters are lower case, one or more should be in upper case (i.e. "capitals") and vice versa.
Suddenly I can't login though I'm sure I am typing both the user name and password correctly. What's wrong?
It might be worthwhile to check your email to see if there is an explanation.
Do you have login settings and what are those for?
Currently the only setting is the connection speed. The user's internet connection speed.determines the quality of the viewed material. For example, if you are using a dialup internet connection, you will see a smaller sized version of a movie with lower quality sound. The reason this is done, is to avoid very long download times. The higher quality versions are much larger files. When you create the account, the connection speed is initially set to "Dialup". If you are using a high speed connection, you should immediately change this setting. Although it is possible to "guess" the connection speed by interrogating the browser, you are still expected to set it manually.
I was previously a customer of RTFFX and want to sign up. Can I?
Simply create an account , then send email to RTFFX. It will be turned into a customer account.
So when will this be online?
The "Anonymous Account" became available May 07, 2007 for folks to try out. The signup page was made available on June 1st. Movie files and slideshows etc. should be available a few weeks after that (only for those who have "signed up" - so these things will not be available for the "Anonymous account". Other enhancements will probably be added over time.
