Get An RTFFX Demonstration DVD for $5.00!

Have any questions about it such as how to get it? Below is the Demo DVD FAQ. If there are any other questions, please contact RTFFX .

Why the $5.00? The "Five Bucks" is to cover duplication costs and to cover the postage to mail it to you. If you are a current or previous customer of RTFFX, you'll get one for free. If you were a previous customer, call or send email and you'll be sent one! If you request a disc and then subsequently place an order, the "Five Bucks" ($5.00) will be credited against that order.
So, What's on it? This demo disc includes actual wedding video and examples of special effects. The intention is also to give you an introduction and to become familiar with "DVD Authoring". Also, of course, that it is hoped that you'll also want to become an informed customer! Topics include:
  • Different Types of Menus
  • About Video
  • About Compositing (Video), Video Transitions, and Video Special Effects.
  • An example of "Widescreen" "Anamorphic Video"
  • About Sound tracks
  • About DVD scripts
  • Digitally created Music
  • An Example of an Audio Effect
  • Slideshows and Music. (There is a slideshow demo with more than 100 White Mountain digital camera images taken in New Hampshire.)
  • Widescreen Versions of the Slideshows
  • Slideshow Transitions/Effects (How each picture in a slideshow can change into the next.)
  • Digitally Created Animations (Several demos including a few of the RTFFX mascot "Digital Winston".)
  • Examples of how DVDs can be programmed. For example there is an "expert mode" page which allows almost all demos to be played from one menu. After the demos run, the DVD player returns to the "expert page". Normally the demos are invoked from their own menus.
  • How an RTFFX review disc might look.
What are the advantages over looking at what is on this web site? Unlike the demonstration material offered on this web site, this is better for the following reasons:
  • Full size images are used. Much smaller images are used on this web site. This is to make the files on this web site a lot smaller so that they won't take a very long time to download.
  • The images and videos that are on this disc are presented at the full frame rate on your TV. This means about 30 frames per second (actually 29.97!). The web site demos use a far smaller frame rate (number of frames per second) than "real" video does. This also helps make the file size on the web site smaller.
  • You can see what high quality SD (Standard Definition) "Fullscreen" or "Widescreen" video should look like, when it was created by a high quality digital camcorder with no losses incurred transferring it to DVD.
  • Soundtracks are in high fidelity ("hi-fi") stereo, minimum two-channel stereo. The demos on this website, if they have sound, have sound that is in "mono" with a lower sampling rate (i.e. "lower-fi"). Again the files on the web site can be made smaller.
  • There is at least one animation demo on this disc that is not available on this website. In other words you can't see it unless you get the disc. The demo is an example of an animation that could be used as an introduction for many types of special event videos.
  • You can "meet" the "real Winston", an "Old English Sheepdog", the inspiration for the RTFFX digitally created mascot. The real Winston also has a new real sheepdog friend: "Bella".
So, What's NOT on it? Most of the video on the DVD was shot specifically for this disc and is not directly taken from client work. However there is an example of actual wedding footage included on the disc. The demo slideshow relates to "nature" and uses somewhat different music than would likely be used in a "family photo slideshow", but there is an example of that type of music by itself in the form of an "audio demo". There is also, for example, an animation which is very similar to one that was actually used in a "real" project.
How Do I Get It? NOTE: The ability to order and pre-order demo discs online and with Paypal has been moved to the "log in" side of the site and the login part of the site is not yet available. Sorry for the temporary inconvenience. For the time being, if you want to order one or more demo disc(s), please use the contact page and select: "I'd like one or more demo discs" as the subject line and in the body of the message please put the number of discs desired. Also in the body of the message, please include your mailing address and email address if you have one.. Then mail a check or money order for the full amount ($5.00 per disc) to the address on that page.
What if I get the disc and I have trouble playing it on my DVD player? Another purpose of this demo disc is to head off possible problems which might occur later on if RTFFX does a project for you. The discs are always thoroughly tested. If you have problems with one, please contact RTFFX. Some programming features of the DVD specification used on this disc are known to cause problems on certain DVD players. The problems are often in the player, rather than on the disc. You are more likely to experience problems if you have an older DVD player, say one that is a few to several years old. Try playing the disc on another DVD player if you have one or on a friend's. If you do not have another DVD available to use, a work-around may be possible where a DVD feature is simply not used or another way to do it is substituted.
If I use your "shopping cart" and I change my mind and don't send any money, what happens? Nothing. Precisely nothing. In other words, you just don't get one. There are no penalties. The email sent to RTFFX on an online order or by itself, besides providing a shipping address (if you don't send your address only with your payment), is simply an alert that you have an interest so that someone will be on the look out at the RTFFX P.O. Box. If you paid with Paypal, it is hoped and expected that you were serious. You can still ask for your money back (before the disc or discs are shipped, of course).
I'm in Europe, can I get one for my PAL DVD Player? Currently there is not a PAL version of this disc. There is only a version for NTSC, the TV standard in use in the United States (and other places). If you are in a PAL country, you may actually already have a DVD player that can play both. Meanwhile, the need for this will depend on demand, if any.
What about other features, such as "High Definition" (HD). Does this disc demo these features? HD (High Definition) is currently not supported using the now widely-in-use DVD design, though it might be able to be handled in other ways (such as be edited). There are HD DVD formats defined, but currently these are nowhere close to being in widespread use.

Time permitting, other features may be added in the near future. A trade-off was made to make something available now vs. something with everything in it which might never get done.

Would I be prevented from stealing stuff off this disc or copying it? You aren't using any watermarks or something similar are you? To keep the costs of this demo disc down, no form of copy protection has been used on this disc. These features add additional cost to a DVD. Legally you normally would not be entitled to copy anything from this disc. However, if you want to copy the disc yourself in it's entirety and give it to a friend for personal use only, you are permitted to do so. No other type of reproduction of this disc is permitted. In other words, no part of this disc may be copied by itself under any conditions and the disc in its entirety may be copied only for personal, "non-commercial" use. Concerning watermarks and such, YES, material on this disc is marked in some way to discourage its use for other than its intended purpose. Such techniques are in common use for customer review purposes. The same techniques that are used on a review disc you might get prior to having paid for the finished results (it depends on the project) have been used on this disc. Running timecode is superimposed over video, and a watermark may be superimposed over still images and may also be superimposed over video in addition to the running timecode. It is thought that doing this does not detract very much from the disc. Actually it shows you what a review disc might look like!
