RTFFX and Video Services DVD Authoring Package Descriptions

(Note: Treat these lists as guidelines. Call or email for a quote. Sometimes more advanced functions can be done for the basic price. For example, digitizing your printed photographs, rather than using digital photos, is normally associated with the "custom" package [because there is more labor]. However if all there is to do is to create a Slide Show on the DVD, using digital photos, and nothing else, the "basic" price would apply for that job.)

Description
Basic

If there is video, conversion of VHS or other format video and audio to the appropriate digital formats.

A single video track with a single audio track (if provided) will be created. Copyrighted material cannot be used for either the video or the audio, unless you are the owner of the copyright.
"Widescreen" format or "fullscreen" for the video may be used, but not both.
A basic level of editing will be used with any video present, meaning RTFFX will use its best judgment. As a minimum, obvious "junk scenes" will be removed (example: a scene of someone's shoe). You can also specify what to remove. A "reasonable" number of chapter markers will be added to the video and these will be used for the chapter index. Yes, you can also specify where the chapter markers should be. (Note that due to the design of the DVD, though it is unlikely, it is possible that one or more markers may end up being located "near" rather than "at" a particular position in the video)
Chapter Menu(s) with motion video clips will be created for each chapter (the number of menus depends upon the number of chapters created.and the number of chapters displayed per menu). As an alternative, you can request simpler text menus without the moving clips
One Slideshow can be included. A set of image files for each slide must be supplied, meaning they must all be digital photos or must have been previously scanned. Up to 150 images may be used. A data CD or DVD-Rom, or even a "zip disk" is suggested with a folder on it containing the image files. You may also upload your image files to this website using one of two methods currently available.

A still image or motion "main menu" will be created. You can specify what the image or movie should be or you can let RTFFX decide. A minimum of two (2) buttons will be on the main menu: "Play Movie", "Chapter Index", and "Still Images" if a slideshow is present. If this is a slideshow only disc, there will not a be a "Play Movie" button. Yes, you can even change the wording and/or specify the placement of the buttons. (The reason why some customization can be offered in this "basic package" is that there is no difference in the overhead required to use different wording and/or different placements of menu items. Graphics for the buttons, however, is another matter). A suitable title will be placed over the menu or you can specify the title and its location. The "main menu" will be the first screen displayed after the disc is inserted into the DVD player.

If there is a slideshow and there is room left on the disc, the files will be placed on the DVD in a folder as DVDROM type material..
If any issues or problems arise the customer will be contacted by email or telephone. Usually some type of direction will be requested. There might not be enough room on the DVD. Additional DVD(s), layer(s), or side(s) may need to be used.
If you require the services of a replication facility please request the custom package below. See the RTFFX DVD FAQ for information about replicators.
RTFFX does not own a professional sound studio. However some sound processing can be performed. Contact RTFFX for more details. Otherwise, sound processing will be limited to adjustment of the soundtrack(s) volume, if necessary.
Final results are delivered on a single layer single sided DVD-R.
Custom

All items specified in the "Basic" Package included. Includes optional customizations described below at no additional cost.

Customer-specified DVD structure - the customer can specify how the DVD is structured. Details concerning what on a DVD can be customized may be found here. Some customizations may turn out to be labor intensive. If so, RTFFX will provide a quote for the additional cost of the item or item(s) before beginning the work. RTFFX reserves the right to request additional fees for labor intensive tasks or changes.

Up to nine (9) additional soundtracks can be included for the main video, provided the customer supplies the extra soundtracks. These can be on a music or data CD or on audio tape. Acceptable file formats are AIFF, WAV, or MP3.

One subtitle channel can be included provided the customer includes the text and optionally the timecodes. If the subtitle list must be generated by listening to the soundtrack, or some other labor intensive process must be used, or for each additional subtitle channel (usually for additional languages), it m ay be extra.

Up to 150 photos can be included in the slideshow. Printed photos (the non-digital kind) can optionally be scanned by RTFFX, thus becoming "digitized". Digital photos are preferred, but not mandatory. Slideshows will be provided buttons on the main menu and you can supply the wording you want to be used. The default is: "Favorite Photos". Also, please be aware that still images, just like about everything else, take up space on the DVD. Provided copyrights are not violated, you can request specific music or provide your own single soundtrack file that plays as the images are shown or a provide separate sound file for each image (copyright issues still apply). Otherwise RTFFX will supply the slideshow music (preferred).
You can specify which scenes you want in the "chapter index" as well as the names for the scenes. You are actually specifying where "chapter markers" should go. The names of each scene will appear in the index. These must be short, only a few words. (You can see an example on the demo page.) The index uses only the starting points of scenes. In other words, a scene ends at the start of the next scene! You may also use another name for the index other than "Scene Index".
One "Story" can be included. Note this refers to a customer specified "story". Chapter markers specify the beginning of each clip, so you must beforehand determine when each scene starts (see the previous item). You will need to supply the end marker location for each clip you want to include and also the order the clips should be presented. A discussion of "stories" is on the customization page. If accessed from the "main menu", the story requires a name that you can specify for the button.
DVD-ROM material can be added if there is enough space on the DVD. Simply supply the folder(s) needed. Normally copies of any digital photos or scanned printed photos will be included as DVD-ROM material (space permitting).
If the customer requires the services of a replication facility, RTFFX will submit the data to the replicator if requested. The customer will be responsible for replicator costs.
AT RTFFX's discretion, watermarked still images will be made available for review while the project is being worked on. Also, a pre-review movie file copy with running timecode superimposed may be made available for download, if appropriate. (Usually this is done in cases where the customer wants to specify scene boundaries).
Customer may request an edited or unedited evaluation copy on DVD disc(s). If editing was requested, a single round of simple changes after review is allowed. "Simple" means up to an hour of labor (not counting computer time). If the video is unedited, the customer is expected to provide a full set of editing instructions. Such changes will be considered final. However, RTFFX will correct mistakes of interpretation of the customer's instructions. Customer has thirty (30) days to decide whether or not to request changes. Digital watermarks will be used on review copies unless the entire outstanding balance has been paid.
Custom after Basic??? If the results of the basic service are not as good as you would like, yes, you can convert it to a custom DVD. Simply let us know and remit the difference.
